China Student visa (X Visa) is issued to an individual who plans to travel to China for study, advanced studies or internship.

If the study period is longer than 6 months, X-1 visa (3-month single entry), you need to transfer the visa into Residency Permit at the local policy office within 30 days from the date you enter China mainland. You can use the multiple years Residency Permit for multiple entries between US and China.

If the study period is less than 6 months, X-2 visa (1-year multiple entries with up to 180 days stay), no need to transfer.

So please follow the NEW Consular Jurisdiction Map in the United States to CORRECTLY choose where to submit your online application to start your online application.

Specifically, when you are filling out the online application form: 

1. your name must be identical with your passport:

• Family Name is the Surname: 1^st line of your US passport;
• Given Name is your first and middle name: which is the 2^nd line of your US passport! Your Middle name must shown here! Not just your first name.

2. For your Education and Work Experience for at least 5+ years:

• Section 3 Working Experience: Please do include "Position" and "Duty"! Those two cannot be blank.
• Section 4 Education: "Major" must be included. If no major, please put "general study".  

3. Section 5: Your home address must include city and state, and better match your DL.

4. Section 6 Information About Your Intended Trip: an address (hotel or residential address) is needed itinerary section (an estimate is fine, can be different when you travel). 

BEFORE clicking the "SUBMIT" button, STOP ON REVIEW PAGE! Do NOT submit!

Please email us the Application ID, copy of your passport, copy of last China visa (if any), and Birth Certificate for minor in ONE email FIRST (not in separate emails!) to make sure no changes need to be made, since once submitted, you cannot modify it. We will review your online application, make corrections if needed, submit, then email you all the documents that you to print and sign, as well as a simplified documents checklist for your case.

Important: 

For the print-out application form:

After submission: you cannot change the form anymore.

• Please print the cover barcode confirmation page on 1-page to make sure the signature section is on the same page with the barcode section!
• For all application material, including the 10-page online application print-out, NO both-side printing allowed!
• Please make sure the right top small barcode and the bottom page number are all shown on each page! If some part of the page is not shown, please shrink the printing percentage from 100% to 95% or 90%, or for some printer, it has the "shrink to printable area" option, then you can have everything printed out. 
• Don't forget to sign, in ink, both cover barcode page, and the last page (section 9.1A in the middle, NOT 9.2!!) of your application form! No Digital signature will be accepted.
• Minor applicants: BOTH Parents must sign all his/her application forms and all other documents that need signature. Minor applicant's online application print-out parents must sign BOTH section 9.1A and 9.2!

You can make the appointment yourself (If so, please DO include of the appointment confirmation page!) We can also submit and make the appointment for you. 

Mail Package Checklist: 

1. Signed complete online application print-out with signed Barcode cover page. 
2. ORIGINAL passport, and a copy of passport photo page (whole page)
3. copy of last Chinese visa if any, and a copy of the passport photo page if it's not on the same passport (whole page)
4. copy of your Driver's License
5. Original and a copy of Short Term Study Notification Barcode Letter or Visa Application for study in China - JW201 or JW202 (click for a sample)
6. Original and a copy of School Offer Letter
7. One/Two 2*2 passport photos on white background
8. Signed Where You Stay Form (Download)
9. If you are self-employed:  Job Description form is needed. 
10. For Non-US Citizens: the copy of your green card OR your working permit in US, I-20, valid US visa or other legal documents.
11. If you were born in Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana, etc., even you are holding a US passport now, please complete the Additional Info form and provide a copy of your personal resume.

For US passport holders (*For Non-US/NON-CANADA citizen, please check the service fees here.):

* passport must have more than 12 months validation from the submission date. 5 years Crew Visa is only for major airlines. L visa is not open to apply at this moment!

** 10-year L and M visa are up to 60 days stay for each entry. L or M visa with 90 days stay can only get up to 1 year or shorter, and a reason is required at last section "Other Declaration" of your online COVA application form: https://cova.mfa.gov.cn/. Q2 visa if you need more than 120 days (up to 180 days), please DO put "180" at section 2.5, otherwise, it will be 120 days for each stay.  

*** F visa determined by consular based on visit purpose etc. Normal it's 1 year multiple entries. 

For Canada Passport holders:

The validation of 10 year China visa  is based on the validation of the applicant's current Canada passport:

Visa validation (1 yr, 2 yrs, 3 yrs, ..., 9 yrs) + Duration of each stay ( up to 60 days for Tourist and Business, up to 90 days for non-Chinese family visit, 120 or 180 days for Chinese family visit) MUST <= passport validation

1. For Expedite China Visa Services:

·         Please ensure we receive your package BEFORE 10:30am, Otherwise, a 1-day delay is possible. Fedex Priority Overnight 10:30 am delivery is recommended. Do NOT use First Overnight, since the driver would come on 6 am  or 7 am while nobody is here. 

·         Please ensure you have at least 2 blank VISA pages on your passport (The last 3 pages do not count! They are amendment pages and can NOT be used for visas).

2. 对原籍中国 (出生地为大陆、台湾、香港、澳门) 的申请者， 及其非中国出生的配偶和直系血亲子女，或者现在仍是中国公民，但其配偶或直系血亲子女是美国公民的申请者，请注意您的材料准备：

·         如您寄过来的美国护照上有中国签证，请复印最后一张签证，并和您的申请表等其他材料一同寄来；

·         如您寄过来的美国护照上没有任何中国签证，且您曾签过中国签证，请附上旧中国签证的复印件；

·         如您是入美籍之后第一次回国，请务必把最后一本中国护照原件寄来和入籍纸的复印件(如果您最后一本中国护照的失效日期在您 US Passport 生效日期之前，请致电咨询，因可能要求其他特殊材料！), 否则使领馆将不予受理签证申请；出生地为港澳的申请人请附上以前港澳ID的copy；出生地为台湾的申请人请附上以前台湾护照或台湾出生证的copy；

·         如您是入美籍之后第一次回国，从未办过中国签证，亦没有中国护照原件，或者曾签过中国签证，但不在即将寄来的护照上，而且找不到旧签证复印件，请去使领馆面签。

3. 原籍/现籍中国人的非中国出生的美籍配偶或子女，除以上材料外，还需准备：

·         配偶需结婚证复印件 + 原籍/ 现籍中国人配偶的：美国护照照片页复印件或中国护照照片页复印件及其在美绿卡，签证，或I20等复印件；

·         子女需出生证复印件 + 父母（双方）的美国护照照片页复印件或中国护照照片页复印件及其在美绿卡，签证，或I20等复印件；

·         如原籍/现籍中国人现护照上的名字和结婚证或出生证上名字不完全一致的，请附上更名纸的复印件。
